Be a Better Horseman-Marty Marten
Riding Distractions
Within reason, don’t worry about outside distractions. Use them for training, particularly at home in your familiar riding area. This will challenge your ability to keep your horse’s attention despite disruptive noise or outside activity. When your horse gets distracted, redirect his focus back to you by giving him a job to do. If his attention is off to the left, get him to look back to the right. Be consistent and disciplined within yourself. If you look where he’s looking, it may validate his concerns. You are reacting to him instead of him responding to you. Instead, stay focused and redirect him. - Marty Marten
