Learning to be a good rider/trainer takes time and hard work. Learning to be a great rider/trainer takes an intensive riding program and classroom time spent on nutrition, reproduction, farm and stable management, preventive medicine and equine judging.

Students in The University of Findlay’s equine studies program (western riding/training emphasis) ride five days a week. During their first year, they develop techniques in showmanship, horsemanship and western pleasure. They advance through colt breaking, cutting, reining, and finishing pleasure horses for the show ring.

Once potential students see our outstanding western facility, they know they’ve come to the best place for refining their equestrian skills. The 152-acre Animal Science Center houses our western farm featuring 330 stalls, tack rooms, three indoor arenas, all-weather turnout pens, outdoor sand ring and 1/6-mile all-weather exercise track. Several wash stalls and classrooms are located inside the barn.

Degrees available include a bachelor of science in equine studies (western riding/training emphasis) and an A.A. in western riding/training. The University of Findlay also operates a separate English riding facility and offers an emphasis in English riding/training with a focus in either dressage or hunter/jumper.

To enhance their marketability in the horse industry or other professions, UF equestrian students can double major in equine business management, animal science, education or almost any of our 60 program offerings.
