After a week of competition that featured nearly 1,500 contestants from all across the United States, Canada and Australia, the 2013 National High School Finals Rodeo National Champions were crowned on Saturday night at the Sweetwater Events Complex.

Now we’re onto the obstacle course. When practicing I followed the same timeline as in the real event, so the colt had a rest overnight. This overnight rest before the obstacle competition makes the event quite different from others because the horses get a full day’s rest before going into the obstacle course.
Athletic palomino horses are nothing new to the reined cow horse winner’s circle, but Shiney Sushi had yet to step into the champion’s spotlight. She finally got her due, winning the Open Bridle class at the National Reined Cow Horse Association’s Celebration of Champions in San Angelo, Texas, on February 4.
