SUMMARY:Ranch Horse Association of America National Finals
DESCRIPTION:Western Horseman is a proud sponsor of the Ranch Horse Association of America.  \nIn 1998\, the RHAA was formed to promote the qualities and characteristics of the ultimate working ranch horse\, while providing a means of competition to show these ranch horses. The RHAA sanctions local working ranch horse competitions\, provides a uniform set of rules\, qualifies working ranch horse competition judges\, and promotes uniformity and consistency in judging. \nThe RHAA seeks to accomplish these goals while maintaining traditional western influence with historic western sportsmanship and a cowboy ethic. \nCompetitions include a dry work pattern made up of circles\, spins\, stops\, lead changes and roll backs. Once the pattern is completed\, riders box a cow on the end of the arena\, then drive it down the fence and turn the cow each direction. To complete the run\, contestants then rope the cow. RHAA events are held all across the country. \nThe RHAA National Finals are held each year in conjunction with the Western Heritage Classic in Abilene\, Texas\, on the second weekend of May. Riders qualify at RHAA approved sanctioned shows during the year. Classes are divided into the Junior Youth\, Senior Youth\, Novice BDBD\, Box Drive Box Drive\, Wrangler\, Cowboy\, Ranch Hand\, Junior and Senior. Each qualifier is eligible to compete in the RHAA National Finals.

SUMMARY:Western Heritage Classic
DESCRIPTION:Western Horseman is a proud sponsor of Western Heritage Classic.  \nIn 1985\, a few local cowboys formed teams to compete in authentic ranch activities that involved a scoring system used to determine who was the best working ranch. It was an event that not only challenged the participants but it drew a crowd and established a way to support a local charity. \nLong before the name Western Heritage Classic was recognized\, the ranch rodeo competition included five events – bronc riding\, wild cow milking\, team penning\, team roping and calf branding. Points accumulated over a two-day period. The same format is still followed today. \nAs the event began to grow\, organizers set a goal to build a prestigious event that would preserve western heritage traditions. Activities during the annual event are designed to embody the essence of cowboy lifestyle and history. Everything that happens during the three-day event ties back to the cowboy heritage and “the way it was” back on the ranch generations ago. \nToday\, the Western Heritage Classic is recognized internationally. Held on the grounds of the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene\, Texas\, the three-day weekend event’s showcase is the Ranch Rodeo; though it offers many activities that feature western interests as well as history. These activities include: the World’s Largest Bit & Spur Show\, a Chuckwagon Cookoff\, Matched Horse Races\, Children’s Stickhorse Rodeo\, Cowboy Poets & Western Artisans\, Ranch Horse Clinics\, Western Trade Show\, a Western Gala\, the Rhinestone Round-Up\, a Ranch Horse Sale\, the World Finals RHAA Competition\, and a giant Western Parade. All of these events add to the wide range that the Western Heritage Classic offers spectators each year.

SUMMARY:Windy Ryon Memorial Roping
DESCRIPTION:Western Horseman is a proud sponsor of the Windy Ryon Memorial Roping.  \nBenefiting Windy Ryon was a cowboy and businessman\, founder of Ryon’s Saddle Shop and Western Store in the historic Fort Worth Stockyards. There was always a pot of coffee on at Ryon’s\, and it became a gathering place for cowboys and ranch and rodeo hands. This internationally famous store was the background for many a wild west tale. Windy was usually in the store spinning yarns and trading stories with the best of them. \nTo honor Windy’s memory\, his friends held the first Windy Ryon Memorial Roping in 1973. Since that time\, the roping has become a showcase to the world’s top professional rodeo competitors like Dean Oliver\, Roy Cooper\, Joe Beaver\, and even Walt Garrison. The Windy Ryon Arena\, just north of the Fort Worth Stockyards\, in Saginaw\, has been the home of incredible rodeo action. \nTens of thousands of spectators have enjoyed the excitement of championship calf roping\, steer steer roping\, steer wrestling\, and team roping. There’s even ladies team roping and calf roping\, and a celebrity washer pitch tournament. Each year the roping honors the memory of an area cowboy or cowgirl who live and love the sport of rodeo. \nThe Roping is as historical as it is entertaining\, and the Windy Ryon Memorial Roping Association dedicates itself each year to provide a world-class roping event and to meet all of its area youth scholarship obligations.
