David Boudreaux ties down a non-compliant yearling on the Gray Ranch in southwestern Louisiana. The ranch established in 1896 raises cattle and Quarter Horses. The small portion of its herd that runs on the isolated, overgrown Perry Ridge isn’t as domesticated as the rest, requiring cowboys during roundups to sometimes take down their ropes and prevent escapes into the area’s thick brush and treacherous marshes.
