There is great satisfaction in being part of a crew and doing hard work. It might sound crazy, but I think the same applies to horses, and every time I look at this photo I get a sense that these geldings are content to do their job. This remuda was used by a crew of cowboys to care for yearlings in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and their job involved trotting many miles through meadows, trees and up steep hillsides. I guess there is also great satisfaction in spending the summer working in cool, scenic mountain country.
