Cowboys and horses trotting in at daylight has got to be one of the most thrilling scenes for a Western photographer to capture. Here, Jeffery Alvarado jingles in the remuda on the Kokernot o6 Ranch near Fort Davis, Texas. It’s always a captivating moment for me, watching dozens of fresh horses swish their tails, toss their manes, and glide across the landscape with the rhythmic sound of their hooves thumping the ground. Grays, roans, bays and sorrels filter into the corral, where the cowboy crew waits to pick out their mount for the day. I never get tired of shooting this scene.
