About Us

A Changing World

January 2019 marks the 83rd year of publication for Western Horseman magazine. It’s hard to conceptualize just how much the world has changed since founder Paul Albert began pursuing his dreams near San Francisco in 1936. Surely he would be astonished at the technological innovations that we now use to produce the magazine each month. The changes from 1936 to 2019 have been absolutely staggering.

One thing has not changed—Western Horseman’s role in providing the most trusted and authentic content in the Western world. Our print publication has a dedicated readership that is envied by many of our competitors. Its quality recently earned a coveted General Excellence nod at the 2016 American Horse Publications Equine Media Awards.

But our outfit has expanded our trusted brand—Western Horseman—beyond the pages of a magazine.

Thousands of people visit our website each month, where they can read a blog, view amazing photography, watch videos, buy a book or subscribe to either the print or digital version of the magazine. More than 352,000 bona-fide Facebook fans interact with us, many of them on a daily basis. We also connect with our audience through Twitter, Instagram and other forms of social media.

Earning the dedicated trust of our audience did not happen over-night. We have been earning it, issue by issue, since 1936.
