Customer Service, Administrative and Merchandise

Status: Full Time, Hourly (30 hours/week)

Position Summary

The Customer Service, Administrative and Merchandise position will process in-person, call-in and email/social requests for all in-house and wholesale merchandise orders, office and admin requests and direct questions to appropriate departments. This position will also manage the wholesale booklist, assist with merchandise inventory and help out where needed when projects and publications increase during high volume season. This position reports to our Director of Digital, Audience, Marketing and Sales for all equine media brands including Road to the Horse and the National Barrel Horse Association. The position will also work closely with our Director of Facilities and Warehouse along with other in-office Customer Service personnel. Some travel may be required for a variety of duties, event setup, booth merchandise sales, setup and teardown as well as weekends and evening hours as needed. Moreover, this position will represent the Morris Media Network Equine Group brands in superior client service, problem solving and resolution providing a deep knowledge of the Western way of life, culture and trends.

Essential Function, Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Welcomes and directs visitors and clients.
  • Answers and transfers phone calls, screening when necessary.
  • Performs other general clerical and secretarial duties as requested, which may include recordkeeping, managing petty cash, maintaining office supplies and coordinating equipment maintenance, and handling packages and correspondence.
  • Primary on call-in questions, front desk, and backup on warehouse for the Fort Worth office – including Road to the Horse, NBHA, Barrel Horse News, Quarter Horse News, EquiStat and Western Horseman
  • Enter, track and process Shopify orders from call-in, fax, social, email and in-person customers
  • Invoice entries and coding to appropriate departments
  • Report monthly Merchandise sales, wholesale and retail
  • Manage every other day Bank deposits and regular Post Office Box activities
  • Assist in Warehouse Shipping and Receiving (backup for Facilities Manager)
  • Efficiently and effectively respond to subscribers, retail and wholesale customers
  • Manage Booth and Show deposits and paperwork, subscription cards, email lists, follow up
  • Gathering planner – process lunch orders when necessary
  • Booth sales work, activity planning and assist sister brands when needed
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education/Skills Requirements

  • Administrative, business or accounting degree recommended or similar experience in a professional office environment with publishing, broadcast, agency or Western market experience a plus
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Extremely proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of email, social media and website platforms a plus
  • Experience with data entry, recordkeeping and filing
  • Superior organization skills, detail-oriented and professional
  • Self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision, but also able to effectively work within a team

Qualifications:

  • A four-year degree or equivalent work experience
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in a fast-paced office environment with western, publishing, live events, digital and/or media experience is a plus
  • Highly motivated individual with experience in a professional office environment

This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Marketing Manager

Position Summary

The Marketing Manager is responsible for executing and implementing marketing plans, strategies and tactics for all Morris Equine Group media brands to include Western Horseman, Barrel Horse News, Quarter Horse News, EquiStat and Stallion Register. These marketing deliverables include brand adherence and audience development and growth in print, online and at Western industry events. The Marketing Manager also will assist in the creation of assets for sales, video, social media, along with the creation of promotional materials, press releases and comprehensive media campaign plans and execution. This position will also act as an ambassador for all Morris Equine brands when needed.

Essential Function, Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop and implement multimedia campaigns with a focus on audience development, brand loyalty and subscription growth across multiple equine brands
  • Work directly with the Director of Marketing to implement strategic campaigns to promote in-house merchandise
  • Curate, coordinate and facilitate deliverables for all trade/media partnerships including but not limited to event activation, print, website and social promotion
  • Lead on tradeshow event marketing including the planning, ordering, setup and management of booths at key Western industry events
  • Orchestrate and develop key event activation opportunities outside of traditional format
  • Generate social media, website and video content while attending Western industry events
  • Create and manage key partnerships with outside industry professionals
  • Represent the Morris Media Equine Group at all times with high-professional standards and attention to detail
  • Manage trade show booths for all brands; includes design, set up, staffing and working booths at major industry events
  • Manage existing sponsorships and develop new sponsorship opportunities
  • Write and distribute press releases to promote programs, products and initiatives
  • Assist with the development and creation of marketing materials
  • Assist managers with marketing related special events and special projects
  • Develop Marketing and sales collateral materials for all books and products
  • Manage merchandise product development/apparel/books/etc.

Position Summary

The Senior Editor position will direct, create and manage a multi-media editorial content strategy for the Western Horseman brand including, but not limited to print, website, social, video and still photography optimized for various platforms. Work closely with the Art Director in design, photography and set the vision for how the story unfolds and deepens our connection with the readers. Travel to create feature and department content (stories) in video, print and social as well as brainstorm, assign and create lead features as writer and photographer. Represent the Western Horseman brand throughout the country and at industry events. Lead and assist in the planning, creation, implementation and execution of the overall Western Horseman content strategy. Ideal candidate must have a deep knowledge of the Western way of life, culture and trends. The Senior Editor’s goal is to improve audience experience and increase engagement with our Western Horseman brands.

Essential Function, Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create, assign, execute and manage editorial content including: written copy, photography, video and / or infographics and illustrations with the assistance of a creative designer
  • Brainstorm, write, top-edit and manage 10+ feature stories annually (print/digital)
  • Write, top-edit, create and manage monthly departmental stories 4+ per Issue (print + paired digital)
  • Brainstorm, write, top-edit and manage website and social exclusive content
  • Develop digital and social editorial content schedule for optimum improvement and distribution
  • Work with Digital Strategist to monitor and analyze digital audience trends, adjust strategy or content direction as needed
  • Line-edit copy for all content online, social and in print
  • Initiate and manage weekly editorial meetings
  • Actively strategize and plan editorial content 12-18 months ahead of schedule
  • Assign editorial content 12-18 months ahead
  • Manage flow of editorial content into design folders for Art Director
  • Efficiently and effectively respond to audience
  • Upload, create and write content on westernhorseman.com
  • Act as Western Horseman ambassador / emissary for the brand when appropriate
  • Fact check material as needed
  • Keep accurate and detailed records to ensure editorial success
  • Editorial workflow to be created and provided on-time and on predetermined deadline schedule
  • Stay abreast of Internet/online and social media best practices
  • Help manage proactive and reactive online, digital and communications issues

Education/Skills Requirements

  • A Journalism or Broadcast degree or similar publishing, editorial, and/or content creation experience

Qualifications:

  • A four-year Journalism degree or similar publishing, editorial, and content experience
  • 4 to 6 years of experience in communications with a strong focus on the Western way of life
  • Highly motivated individual with experience in writing/developing and managing print media, social media content, corporate digital content and related marketing solutions
  • Strong knowledge of both the print and digital landscape
  • Web management & optimization experience a major plus
  • Knowledge of latest SEO practices.
  • Familiarity with various photo and video editing software
