At a branding it’s customary for the host family or ranch to fix a meal for friends and neighbors who contribute long hours–or even days–of hard physical labor to get the job done. The TA Ranch, located north of Saratoga, Wyoming, held its branding July 8-10, 2015, and folks came from several states, including California, Colorado, Nebraska and Texas, with trailers full of horses in tow.

The ranch not only fed its large crew and their families each day, but also made one evening even more special with a concert featuring cowboy singers Mike Beck, Daron Little and Caitlyn Taussig.

“We used to have a Fourth of July barbecue and party with family, vendors, music, etc.,” TA Cowboss John Haskell explains. “When we shifted calving [to a later time in the spring], it made sense to combine the ranch party and branding since there are people from out of town and neighbors [at the ranch] anyway.”

Little, a ranch hand at the Headquarters Division of Silver Spur Ranches in Encampment, Wyoming, had performed after the branding the past two years. This year, however, the TA Ranch owners wanted to express their appreciation with an even larger show held in the ranch shop rather than the bunkhouse.
