Ranching Roots and Family Trees

two cowboys riding horses under a tree

One of the privileges of working for Western Horseman is photographing some of the finest subjects in the United States. I regularly get to point my lens at hardworking cowboys, handy horses, well-bred cattle and scenic landscapes. But even better, I get to know the families who make their living in agriculture. The tight relationships these people have to the land, livestock and to each other is remarkable. Here, Austin Brown III and his son, Austin Brown IV, better known as Cuatro, bring cattle into their pens near Beeville, Texas. Cuatro represents the fifth generation of Browns to raise cattle in South Texas. The story on Brown Ranches appeared in the September 2013 issue of Western Horseman.
