This recipe has all the heartiness and goodness of your mother’s traditional meatloaf, but with a spicy kick.

meatloaf 480

1 pound spicy Italian sausage
1 pound ground beef
1 onion, finely chopped
1 green pepper, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, chopped
½ cup chopped green chilies
1 egg, beaten
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
salt and pepper to taste
½ cup Italian breadcrumbs
1 cup corn tortillas, chopped
3 tablespoons steak sauce

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
In a large bowl, mix sausage and ground beef. Add remaining ingredients, but set aside 2 tablespoons of steak sauce.

Knead the mixture until all ingredients are blended. Shape mixture into a loaf and place in a baking pan coated with cooking spray. Drizzle remaining steak sauce over meatloaf.

Bake 1½ to 2 hours, until cooked thoroughly.

Tip: Use pan drippings as a gravy base to top the meatloaf. With this recipe, you can substitute ground turkey for the beef and/or sausage, and you can add hot sauce, jalapeños or other fiery fixings to suit your taste.
