Mama Tried

Mama Tried campaign feature image

Long before Merle Haggard ever wrote the song “Mama Tried,” mothers have been going the extra mile for their families. Do you ever stop to think about where you’d be if Mama hadn’t tried? For many, she’s the one who held your hand and showed you the ropes. For this reason, we want to honor mothers and special female mentors everywhere by sharing your stories about the woman who raised you, both heartfelt and hilarious.

Did she teach you how to ride? Do you have any wild or funny memories of her misadventures on the ranch or in the arena? Maybe she instilled in you some horsemanship wisdom that you think riders everywhere could benefit from.

We’d love to hear all about it. Email us your favorite memory and an image of the two of you, past or present, at [email protected]. Your story could be featured on the Western Horseman website or in our May 2026 issue!

No matter whether she’s your No. 1 fan or a voice of encouragement that you carry in your heart, we look forward to sharing your stories and honoring those mamas who tried.
