Raised in the small town of Arlington, Washington, Katie started showing horses in 4-H at age 9. She later competed in American Quarter Horse Association shows in hunt seat, Western pleasure, and finally reining, in which she was a finalist at the youth World Show. Katie attended Washington State University (Go Cougs!) and was a member of Alpha Phi sorority. She graduated with a bachelor of science in agricultural communications.

After graduation, she moved from Washington State to Maryland where she was an assistant editor at EQUUS magazine. Later she accepted a position at Western Horseman and moved to Fort Worth, Texas.

Katie resides in Willow Park with her husband, Jason, daughter, Amelia, two red heelers, one orange cat, chickens, miniature horse and her Quarter Horse, Smokey . She enjoys showing in Stock Horse of Texas and other ranch versatility shows.
